Welcome to the House Budget & Research Office

The mission of the House Budget and Research (HBR) Office is to provide objective and timely financial information and policy analysis to the 180 members of the Georgia House of Representatives. The office provides staff support to the Appropriations Committee and 38 other standing committees of the Georgia House of Representatives.

HBRO analysts work in specific public policy areas to provide representatives with independent analysis and research for legislation, best practices, and financial management of the state budget. Our staff provides additional committee support to the members by summarizing, researching and tracking legislation through the legislative process. Budget analysts, in conjunction with financial and budget personnel throughout the state’s departments, provide non-partisan assistance and reports to members of the House upon request.  The office serves as a repository for historical and current appropriation, expenditure, and revenue data.  The office is responsible for analyzing the executive budget, drafting House versions of the budget, and producing the final appropriations bills in odd-numbered fiscal years.

Our goal is to ensure that accurate and substantive information is available to the members of the House of Representatives to enable them to govern efficiently and effectively.
